Fact: On February, 14th, 2020, Senator Craig Wilcox (R- McHenry) filed Senate Bill No. 3607, that sought to cancel the automatic legislative pay increases. Only one Democratic State Senator joined as a co-sponsor, and it wasn't Senator Bush. The Bill continues to languish in the Assignments Committee.
Fact: On May 20th, 2020, Senator Melinda Bush voted yes on Senate Bill No. 264, that granted themselves an automatic pay increase.
Fact: Senator Bush publicly claimed "For the records... I wanted to make this clear... Voting to increase our own pay at a time like this would be irresponsible. Question: Did you vote to increase your salary this year? Answer: No. The budget did not include appropriations to fund legislator pay raises."
Fact: Every Republican and some Democrats argued that SB264 did not vote to stop the automatic increase, and thus they passed a budget that already included the automatic pay increase without considering any amendments offered to cancel it.
